About
About This Data
IsTheKitchenClean uses publicly available inspection data from the City of Chicago's Open Data Portal (data.cityofchicago.org), published by the Chicago Department of Public Health. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or representing the City of Chicago or the Chicago Department of Public Health.
What You're Looking At
A health inspection is a snapshot of a single visit. It tells you what the inspector found on that specific day — nothing more. A restaurant that failed last month may have corrected every issue the next day. A restaurant that passed may have declined since. Inspection results should not be treated as a live representation of current conditions.
Accuracy & Completeness
This data is provided as-is. We make no guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of the information displayed. The City of Chicago makes no such guarantees either. Our trending rankings, severity scores, and violation summaries are automated interpretations of the raw inspection data — they are not official health department assessments or ratings.
How Dates Work
The date shown on each inspection is the date the inspector physically visited the restaurant. The City of Chicago publishes records to its public data feed on its own schedule, which can range from one day to several weeks after the actual visit. An inspection appearing as “new” on this site may have taken place days or weeks earlier.
Limitation of Liability
IsTheKitchenClean is an independent informational tool. We are not liable for any damages — including loss of business, profits, or reputation — arising from the use of or reliance on the information displayed on this site. If you have concerns about a specific restaurant, contact the Chicago Department of Public Health directly.
