Oct 2, 2023 — Complaint inspection

Fail

Triggered by a public complaint about this restaurant.

Two coolers failed temperature controls, forcing discard of chicken, tomatoes, and coleslaw; person in charge lacked required food safety certification.

Standout Inspection

We flagged this inspection for serious public health concerns.

Key Findings

  • Two walk-in coolers on the cook line ran too warm (61.1°F and 49.8°F instead of 41°F or below), contaminating chicken and sliced tomatoes; both units were shut down and tagged for repair.
  • Hot foods in the steam table fell below safe temperatures: chili at 123.8°F and caramelized onions at 122.3°F; all affected foods were discarded.
  • Multiple prepared foods held in coolers exceeded safe cold-storage temperatures, including coleslaw at 56.4°F and raw chicken at 55-56°F; all were discarded.
  • Person in charge did not have a valid Chicago food service sanitation certificate on site while preparing and serving food; additionally, the cook line hand-washing sink lacked paper towels and the basement washroom had no soap.

Key findings are derived directly from the inspector's notes from the Chicago Department of Public Health. See the full violation notes below.
